Brunswick 92nd Infantry Officer Pickelhaube "Running Horse"

Braunschweig 92nd Infantry Regiment -I and II Battalion - Reserve Officer helmet with Black Yak hair parade plume - Model 1897until 1912. From the Rich Ames Collection.  Black lacquered leather helmet body with gilded brass trim. The helmet body is in excellent condition with firm stitching. Exterior lacquer still bright and shiny. The helmet has no extra holes. The helmet interior has a fine sweat leather and silk headliner in near mint condition. Interior visors colored red and green as in normal with officer helmets.

Beautifully fire gilded frontplate is the Prussian Line Eagle without banner. Please note that the Reserve eagle does have an FR on the eagle’s breast. On the eagle is a silver star on which is mounted an enameled blue cross with a red enameled center, and a silver jumping horse (see photo).  The “Peninsula” banner used on the ACTIVE regiment star was eliminated on the Reserve star. Below the enameled star the Reserve Cross with the motto “Mit Gott fur Furst und VATERLAND”. The enameling and silver work is high quality with no chipping or damage.  

The helmet has a round spike base, with officer pearl ring and star retainers with a removable plume trichter that is topped with a black Yak hair parade plume. Officer style back spine.  Flat chinscales with gold rosettes. Officer Reich and Prussian cockades. Before his death, Mr. Ames told us he purchased this helmet from well-known German dealer Schulze v. Merchinsky in 1973 while stationed in Mainz with the USAF.  This is an extremely rare and original regimental helmet that is seldom seen in the collectors marketplace.
