Prussian Model 1860 Grenadier Officer Aspirant Pickelhaube
Grenadier regiment 2, 3 or 8. Franco-Prussian era
Prussian Grenadier Regiments 2, 3 and 8, Officer Aspirant helmet Model 1860. Officer quality custom made “eigentum” helmet. Recently found at the Ciney Show. Heavy square visored black lacquered older pattern helmet with brass trim. The helmet body has good form and firm stitching. Exterior lacquer is still shiny and has no damage or lacquer loss. No extra holes in helmet body.The interior has a black dyed leather EM style liner that is in good shape.
Inner visors plain but do not have legible markings. The brass trim has the makers marks from "J.B. Dotti" on the front visor. The frontplate is the Prussian wide winged Grenadier eagle. Older pattern crossed spike base with officer style pearl ring and round stud retainers. The spike is removable officer style . Both retainers and frontplate are secured to the helmet with special looped nuts (see photos) that were used exclusively in older pattern helmets. Flat chinscales on screw rosettes. Large Prussian Officer cockade. The Model 1860 was the most common spiked helmet used during the Franco-Prussian War. Fine and unique Franco-Prussian era helmet.
