Model 1871 - Near Mint.
Baden Infantry Regiments, One Year Volunteer, Model 1871. From “out of the woodwork” in Europe. Heavy black leather helmet body with brass trim. The helmet body has perfect form and firm stitching. The exterior lacquer still has fine finish. The helmet body has no extra holes. The leather liner is complete and in excellent condition. Inside the helmet bell is the soldiers paper ID tag “Einj. Freiwillige - G. Mayer - 10 Kompanie”. No legible marks in back visor.
One Year volunteer soldiers had to buy their own uniforms and equipment. After their service time was complete they would sell the used uniforms back to a 2nd hand uniform shop (see photos). Frontplate is the standard Baden Griffen held to helmet with screw and nut Early still brass EM spike base with pearl ring. Long back spine without ventilation slide. Flat chinscales on screw type rosette. Single Baden EM style cockade. The helmet throughout is in excellent condition. Fine and 100% original Baden One Year Volunteer from the post Franco Prussian War era.
