Hessen 116th Infantry Regt. Enlisted Pickelhaube

An original helmet that needs some TLC

Hessen 116th Infantry Regiment Enlisted Man Model 1895. Uncleaned and unpolished helmet. Black lacquered leather helmet body with brass metal trim. The helmet body in good condition with even lacquer and firm stitching. The helmet shell is slightly mishaped and would need to be placed on a head form to retun to it original beauty. The inside leather liner is the black dyed pattern that is dry but all present.

The frontplate is the Hessen Lion in brass that is fixed to the helmet with two split brads over grommeted holes (see photos). Note the loops behind plate have been re-soldered by previous owner to consolidate.

The helmet is marked inside the back visor "IR 116". It is very hard to read due to the darked leather but can be discerned in sunlight. Hessen Style cross base maintained by rounded split brads. Hessen style fluted spike that unscrews on top which is proper for the 116th Regt. Brass back spine with ventilation slide. M1891 side posts.  No Strap or Cockades. An original helmet that needs some TLC.
