Bavarian 1st Uhlan Regt. Enlisted Tschapka - Early Model
Named to Uhlan WILKE.
Black lacquered leather body with only mild age crazing. Overall shape remains excellent with a massif mortarboard of the early pattern 1886. Fangschnur hook of the typical bavarian pattern for Enlisted or Officers. Front visor of the right configuration with brass visor trim firmy attached. Thin leather lining underneath visor with Maker stamp (cannot read).
The frontplate is the brass massif Bavarian Uhlan "Wappen" with the "In Treue Fest" bandeau. We have not tried to remove the plate as it definitely came with this Tschapka. A couple of tiny holes are present behind the plate (see pics). Brass rounded chinscales maintained by rosettes and screws. Reich Cockade underneath the right chinscales.
Bavarian Feldzeichen in cotton that looks period, but we believe it to be a replacement. Inside the old pattern leather liner in good condition, but worn and still supple. The name tag inside attributes it to "Uhlan Wilke" 5. Esc. Waffe Nr. 129". This is the very first model of the "modern" Bavarian Tschapkas after they adopted the Prussian style in 1886.
