PRUSSIAN INFANTRY ERSATZ PICKELHAUBE

Prussian Infantry Ersatz helmet circa 1915 built on a firemans helmet body.  THIS IS A RARE and GENUINE PIECE from a Vets estate.  In early WWI the quartermaster corp requisitioned all sorts for leather helmets that were converted for military use.  This helmet is one of these.  Original a firemans helmet.  It was converted for military use with a mixed group of brass and field gray parts.  Black leather helmet body is firm and in excellent shape.  Marked on back visor "55" and "f".  Good stitching.  Frontplate, spike and M91 side lugs in brass.  Back spine, front visor trim and chinstrap are field gray metal.   Slight impression of comb evident as well as 2 small holes for old fire plate.  Helmet has been reconditioned with grometted holes for the frontplate.  Original chinstrap and NCO cockades.  Without a doubt an original wartime conversion.
