Prussian Royal See Battalion Shako Plate. RARE
Very RARE and historical piece.
Royal Prussian See Battalion (Marine Infantry) Enlisted Mans frontplate circa 1860. From an old collection. Stamped brass Flying Prussian Eagle with the banner "Mit Gott fur Koenig und Vaterland" standing on an anchor with chains. Designed for use on an early black felt shako. Screw back retainers (see photos). Extremely rare as the Prussian See Battalion of this era was very small. The Prussian See Battalion was established on May 13, 1852. This unit represented a specialized force that was specially trained both for service aboard warships and coastal defense. By 1870, the battalion consisted of 5 companies with 22 officers and 680 enlisted men that were headquartered in Kiel. After the Unification of 1871, the Imperial Germany Navy was founded and the new Marine Infantry helmet was issued. Very RARE and historical piece.
