Oldenburg 91st Infantry Officers Pickelhaube
Nicely Gild and Silver Frosted Plate.
Oldenburg 91st Infantry Regiment Officer Model 1897. Black lacquered leather helmet body with gilded brass trim. Helmet body has excellent form and firm stitching. No extra holes in helmet body. Exterior lacquer excellent. Interior has sweat leather and officers silk headliner in excellent condition. Green and Red lined front and back visors respectively. Both visors with firm stitching.
The frontplate is the Prussian Line Officers Eagle with the silver star and the arms of Oldenburg on the Eagles breast. We have tried to gently remove the plate, but that was impossible as plate sticks to the helmet body. There are only the two original tiny holes behind it (pictured). Tall gold Officers Spike with star retainers (note pictured 4 tiny holes in teh base of the spike? Flat gilt chinscales held by gold rosettes. Officers blue and red Oldenburg and Reichs Cockades. Very attractive rare regiment helmet.
This helmet also has the Monogram of Friedrich August von Oldenburg. It seems to be an original gild "A" under Crown that was sawn inside the lining. We do have a specific provenance on this helmet has part of the Herzogs heirs, therefore it will be sold as such.
